ARE WE ALL ON BOARD?

Penny Sullivan is on a Caribbean cruise that she and her late husband paid for a year ago. She fears that if it comes out that her husband isn't on board, she'll be charged a single supplement that she can't afford. A quartet of retirees who live aboard cruise ships (a married couple and a pair of sisters) note her naiveté, along with some stock certificates she has brought on board, and plot to swindle her. A male former professor working his way to a new job in the Caribbean has some suspicions, as does the purser (who may be of either sex).
Are We All On Board? combines elements of a heist plot with comedy, farce, and hints of romance. Penny, still sorrowful at the loss of her husband, finds some peace at the end, and all the swindling conspirators get their comeuppance after a ship-wide chase. The tone of the piece, along with the age and woman-heavy weighting of the cast, make it a perfect choice for established community theatres.

About the Playwright
STEVEN D. MILLER
Steven D. Miller started writing and performing plays in childhood, playing 17 characters in a cast-devised fairy tale story in his family's basement at the age of nine. Skits he wrote were performed at assemblies in elementary and high school. He studied playwriting at Dartmouth College under John Finch, a mentor to Frank Gilroy (The Subject Was Roses), and holds a post-graduate degree in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University in New York City.
Steven has been an active participant in community theatre for over 35 years, usually as an actor, as he pursued a full-time career as a computer programmer/analyst. Since 1989, he has been based in metropolitan Atlanta. Atlanta-area productions of his work include a dinner theatre production of The Complete Works of Charles Dickens (Condensed) in Lawrenceville in 2006, several productions of short plays, and a production of Chestnut Bluff in 2015. Chestnut Bluff won the Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre Award for best original work for the 2015/2016 season.
